SHARMIN KHAN

Digital Art

Music affects me very deeply, and often different visuals come to my mind for what it would be like to go through similar emotions expressed in a particular song. Sometimes that leads me to create an artwork based on it, that’s why most of my artworks are based on my favorite songs.  Feel free to explore some of them below.

Delusion

Media: Photoshop, Illustrator and Wacom Tablet.

Date: April 2nd 2019.

Toxic relationships can give a person a false sense of comfort, when in reality it might pose a great deal of danger to that individual. Wrapped into this illusion , the victim tends to be oblivious to the possibilities outside of this toxic comfort zone, either due to their own lack of willingness to come out of it, or because the abuser creates a false image for them. This illustration was inspired by that idea.

The Water

Media: Fuji X-A3 Camera, Photoshop, and Wacom Tablet.

Date: July 28th 2019.

“All that I have is a river. The river is always my home. Lord, take me away for I just cannot stay, or I’ll sink in my skin and my bones”.

Song: The Water-Johnny Flynn & Laura Marling

For me this is a story about the yearning to explore the unknown, to set sail into new horizon defying the dangers that await them, leaving the comfort of the place you call home.

Fleeting

Media: Photoshop and Wacom Tablet.

Date: January 27th 2020.

This artwork was inspired by a song of Bengali Singer-Songwriter Rabindranath Tagore. If translated, part of it will read something like this, “I get a glimpse of you at times, why not forever more? In a sliver of light, in the blink of an eye, when I catch a glimpse of you, I am ever so fearful of losing you, only to lose you in a flash.

I lose you before my hopes are met, I lose you in the blink of an eye, I lose you before my heart is soothed, and I lose you in a flash . . .” I tried to explore this idea of a fleeting union here. The male figure is desperately trying to hold on to his lover, but she’s melting away, and soon, she will be gone forever.

Song for Zula

Media: Photoshop and Wacom Tablet.

Date: August 19th 2020.

“See, honey, I saw love. You see, it came to me. It puts its face up to my face so I could see. Yeah then I saw love disfigure me into something I am not recognizing” Phosphorescent “Song for Zula”.

I tried expressing the idea of a broken heart here. When love has left you and you look within, you see how you are not the same as before, and perhaps, you never will be. The loss of love has broken you to pieces. So much so that you don’t even recognize yourself anymore.

Last Words

Media: Photoshop and Wacom Tablet.

Date: April 07th, 2020.

An artwork inspired by the song “Last Words” by British singer-songwriter Isaac Gracie. The image represents a part of the lyric where the singer contemplates how he became like this, and if there’s a way back from there. I interpreted this song as the thoughts of a person going through severe depression.
